Nihao!
Monday, August 9th, 2004Taiwan is quite the experience! Aside from the jet-lag and some food disagreements I think things are going quite well here! One of the Chinese here at work knows a lot of English and has helped me out significantly! Not only am I learning a bit of Mandarin, but I may be getting some wei2-qi2 contacts.
This past weekend my friend took me to his house where I met his 8 year old nephew. His nephew plays å?´æ£? at the 24 kyu level… needless to say, although I’m only 8 kyu, I didn’t have any trouble winning on 13×13 (I tried not to win too badly, but it’s hard).
And in other good å?´æ£? news, another friend here said she saw a sign for the weiqi association Chung-li (ä¸å£¢) branch! She’ll be taking me there tonight so hopefully my extremely poor Chinese (I’ve had about a week of Mandarin) is enough to go back there after work and play some games (and maybe track down a few å?´æ£? stores for better equipment and books)!
