Each plateau that we are stuck at corresponds to a key concept that we’re having trouble understanding. Currently I’m attempting to overcome one of these plateaus and I think I’m starting to understand some of what this key concept is.
I’m somewhere between 8k and 5k depending on how I play. I’m thinking of some of the differences between my type of play at each level. It seems that the games I play especially poorly are ones that don’t involve any attempt at deep reading. There are just certain situations that cannot succeed by playing normal moves. Furthermore, those poorly played games are often ones that involve chasing an enemy group around inside my own moyo.
Consequently, it seems as though my best games are ones that expand my sphere of influence while protecting as much moyo territory as possible. I believe that refining this sense of value of moyo will solidify me at the next level.
