hiatus

Tuesday, March 29th, 2005

I’m currently on hiatus from go. There are a few reasons, namely:

I’m currently unable to play at work during lunch due to a new firewall. This is a big problem because this was one of the few times I could get a guaranteed game in. This is also a problem because I used to have my go lesson on Fridays during lunch.

I’m able to play at home, but even busier than usual right now. Our Kitchen is (still) in the middle of remodeling so finding some extra time to play go is almost out of the question. I’m able to play on weekends, but time is still a big issue. We’re getting very close to the birth of my son and what weekend time isn’t taken by the kitchen is taken by family.

I’ve cancelled my lessons because of weekends as well… I’m unable to play on Sundays at 10 am (my reschedule from the original work issue) because it’s a bad time of day (earlier - before my wife wakes up - might be possible if some time opens up with my teacher Ion Florescu).

I’m studying for my Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) certification. I’m a Systems Engineer in a networking and voice related field, and I’m certain my career does not include go.

The problem with all of this is that I’m already beginning to feel very deprived of the game. Perhaps this would all have been easier if I had grown angry with the game and therefore distanced myself from it. In my case, however, I’m playing on littlegolem (I may have advanced in the 19×19 Championship - chances are looking good for 2nd place for me) and still reading Sensei’s Library when I can!

Perhaps I need to play some more real-time games again…
